Serious fire at the Alexander Maconochie Centre on 14 November 2020

This critical incident review examined a fire that occurred in Sentenced Cottage 2 at the Alexander Maconochie Centre on 14 November 2020. The fire began during the night shift and caused significant damage to the cottage.
This review found that the fire was dealt with professionally by the night shift staff and there were no reported injuries to staff or detainees. The review makes four public recommendation that address issues identified with staff training to deal with fires, ACT Fire and Rescue access to the AMC and the appropriateness of Corrections Officers' uniforms in incidents such as this. The review makes an additional four confidential security-related recommendations.
