OICS thematic review of Bimberi Youth Justice Centre tabled 28 Nov

The ACT Inspector of Correctional Services’ latest report, a Thematic Review of a Correctional Service: Isolation of children and young people at Bimberi Youth Justice Centre has recommended changes to isolation practices at the centre, particularly the practice of health segregation on admission introduced in response to COVID-19.

The report tabled in Legislative Assembly today, is the Inspector’s first thematic review of Bimberi since the Inspector’s role expanded to include Bimberi in 2019. This review also serves as a pilot National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) visit under the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (OPCAT).

The review makes 13 recommendations.
