Government response to Healthy Centre Review of Bimberi published today

The ACT Government has responded to ACT OICS second Healthy Centre Review of Bimberi Youth Justice Centre. It is promising to note that the government has accepted or noted 14 of 15 recommendations, including the need to define Bimberi’s purpose and model of care.

The review highlighted ongoing issues, including restrictions on physical contact during visits, an emphasis on physical and operational security and the use of force, which negatively impact young people’s wellbeing and opportunities for rehabilitation.

While the support for the recommendations made by the review is welcome, the 10-month delay in finalising the response is disappointing.
