Critical Incident Review of 3 Assaults at the AMC Published

4 May 2026
The latest critical incident review by the ACT Custodial Inspector has been tabled in the Legislative Assembly.
The review examines three serious assaults between detained people at the Alexander Maconochie Centre that occurred between May and September 2025. The review responds to a marked rise in detained person on detained person assaults resulting in hospitalisation and identifies common themes across the incidents, including assaults occurring inside cells without immediate detection, shortcomings in incident reporting and crime scene management, and ongoing challenges in protection and accommodation arrangements at the AMC.
The review makes six findings and four recommendations, highlighting several long‑standing issues that remain unresolved. Read the full report here.
