COVID-19

The ACT Inspector of Correctional Services will visit the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC), Bimberi Youth Justice Centre and the court cells during the COVID-19 pandemic where it is safe to do so consistent with ACT Chief Health Officer advice.

OICS is very conscious of the further restrictions that are being placed on those who are deprived of their liberty in response to COVID-19. The Inspector continues to monitor the situation in the AMC and Bimberi and is is in communication with other bodies who have oversight of these facilities.

OICS has also being following the response of prisons in other Australian jurisdictions and overseas. This allows OICS to see what measures have and have not been successful in comparable jurisdictions.
