ACT Auditor-General's Report on Romeo 5 released

8 Nov 2024

Yesterday, the ACT Auditor-General tabled their performance audit report on the Court Transport Unit vehicle 'Romeo 5' in the ACT Legislative Assembly.

The ACT Inspector of Correctional Services welcomes this report after finding that Romeo 5 'has never been "fit for purpose" and there are serious questions around the vehicle procurement process' in our review of the Court Transport Unit.

The Auditor-General's report found that ACT Corrective Services 'did not implement effective processes for the procurement of the Romeo 5 vehicle' and as a result  'Romeo 5 has not been effectively used as a detainee transport vehicle since its commissioning in 2018.'

The report makes two recommendations- one directed at ACT Corrective Services Procurement Framework and the other about the future use of Romeo 5.
