Healthy Centre Review of Bimberi Youth Justice Centre
16 November 2021
This is the first Healthy Centre Review of Bimberi Youth Justice Centre conducted by OICS. It found that, overall, Bimberi performed well over the four areas in which they were assessed- safety, respect and dignity, purposeful activity, and rehabilitation and preparation for release.
The review makes 27 recommendations for improvement. Key issues identified were the security classification system, the lack of a systemic throughcare programs for young detainees and information sharing and cooperation between Directorates that work in Bimberi.
The Inspector has requested that, after responding to the recommendations, the ACT Government provide an update to the Inspector on the implementation of agreed recommendations every six months.
