Assault of a detainee at the Alexander Maconochie Centre on 13 January 2020

This critical incident review examined the assault of a male detainee at the Alexander Maconochie Centre. The victim had significant injuries and was admitted to hospital. Overall, the review found that the assault was not reasonably foreseeable by ACT Corrective Services and the actions of staff in response to the incident were appropriate. The review made ten findings and two recommendations. The recommendations aim to clarify when a detainee's next of kin should be notified after they are found with serious injuries.
